Process Discovery

Find the automation opportunity before paying to build it.

A Process Discovery turns one troublesome workflow into a shared, measurable decision. You receive the current-state map, a cost baseline, constraints, a prioritised opportunity, and a recommendation to proceed, re-scope, or stop.

Start on your own

Checklists, cost formula, and a go/no-go frame — so you can qualify the opportunity before we talk.

What this means in practice

A map you keep

The current-state process map, stakeholders, exceptions, and baseline are client deliverables even when no implementation follows.

A decision, not a promise

The output can be proceed, re-scope, or stop. A clearly documented “not yet” is a valuable outcome.

Technology after context

Architecture is selected after the process, systems, data, security, and human controls are understood.

Scope boundary

This is not a generic AI maturity assessment.

AutoMates assesses a defined business process. If a wider organisational readiness assessment is required, the scope, stakeholders, and deliverables must be agreed explicitly rather than inferred from a workshop name.

The workshop

What we establish together.

The current path

We document the trigger, steps, systems, inputs, people, decisions, delays, rework, and exceptions. The aim is to find the work as it is done—not as the process diagram says it should be done.

The cost baseline

We make the cost visible with defensible assumptions: frequency, handling time, loaded labour cost, tools, error handling, avoidable waiting, and any downstream effect that can be evidenced.

The conditions for a safe change

We identify data quality, integrations, access, approvals, security requirements, regulatory constraints, ownership, and the manual fallback that makes the new workflow operable.

The output

A decision document, not a black box.

The Process Discovery document is a standalone work product: it records the current process, cost baseline, constraints, evidence, and delivery decision. You keep it and can stop there with useful work completed, continue internally, or move into implementation with AutoMates.

Opportunity score

Each candidate is evaluated for value, feasibility, risk, operational readiness, and the quality of the evidence. This makes prioritisation explainable to commercial and technical stakeholders.

Implementation outline

Where automation is justified, the recommendation includes the proposed workflow, required integrations, control points, testing approach, delivery sequence, and the open decisions that remain.

Decision and delivery path

The document ends with an explicit choice: proceed with AutoMates into a defined build, use the findings with another team, reduce scope, resolve a blocker first, or stop.

If you decide to proceed

AutoMates can take the agreed workflow from document to operation.

Process Discovery is the decision gate, not the end of our delivery. If the case is sound and you choose to continue, the same evidence becomes the starting point for a scoped implementation.

What implementation includes

The approved outline becomes an implementation plan with scope, owners, success measures, controls, and test cases. AutoMates then builds the integrations and workflow, validates it with the people who use it, and takes it through go-live, handover, and the agreed support period.

Common questions

Answers before the call.

Clear answers to the practical questions that usually come up before a first conversation.

What is included in a Process Discovery workshop?

The scope is agreed before the work begins. A standard discovery covers current-state mapping, cost baseline, exceptions, stakeholders, constraints, opportunity assessment, and a clear recommendation.

What happens if we do not proceed?

You retain the documentation of your current process, baseline, and discovery findings. The work is useful even when implementation is not the next step.

How much does a discovery cost?

Discovery is a fixed-fee piece of work, agreed against its scope before it starts. If implementation follows with AutoMates, the fee is credited as agreed in the commercial proposal.
